Comic Bags & Boards FAQs
What's the difference between Shield bags and Coretek bags?▼
Shield Bags are your reliable, everyday choice: clear, sturdy 2 mil polypropylene that keeps out dust, moisture, and handling damage. They're inert and PVC-free, providing safe protection for many years. Coretek Bags are the premium choice, crafted with BoPET: a museum-quality polyester that's pH neutral and acid-free. BoPET is considered the highest standard archival material available. Grab Shield bags for the bulk of your collection, and Coretek for the key issues and holy grails. For an option in between Shield and Coretek, we also offer our OPP bags.
What size bag fits my comic: Current, Silver, or Golden Age?▼
The right size mostly comes down to when your comic was printed. If it's from 1985 or later, you'll want our Current Size. Comics from 1956 through 1984 fit our Silver Age Size. Older comics from the 1940s and '50s, need our Golden Age Size. If your comic runs on the thicker side or has a larger than average page count, we also carry Wider Current and Wider Silver sleeves. We always recommend measuring your comic before purchasing!
Do I need a backing board too?▼
Boards are essential to comic protection. A Backing Board slides in behind your comic– inside of the bag– to keep it flat and supported. With a board, your comic’s protected from bends, creases, or stress at the spine. Our boards are made from sturdy 24 pt SBS buffered boards, and are coated on one side. Each one is cut to match a specific comic-era size. They're sold separately in packs of 100, and if you're working through a bigger collection, we also offer Bulk Boxes of 1,000 for our most popular sizes.
What's the difference between a standard bag and a resealable bag?▼
Our Standard Bags use a simple flap that folds over the top of the bag. The flap doesn't stick shut on its own, so if you want it sealed, you can add your own tape. Resealable Bags provide a built-in peel-and-stick strip on the bag, so you can conveniently seal and reopen the sleeve. We recommend resealable bags for easy access to your books and when regularly handling your comics. Both styles offer the same great protection.
Do you have bags for graded comics, oversized books, or magazines?▼
We do! If your comic has been professionally graded and sealed in a hard plastic case, we carry a Resealable Bag for Graded Comics. Pristine, scratch-free cases often protect the comic’s market value. Got an oversized comic, like a Treasury Edition, or large format book? We have a bigger bag and matching board for those too. And if magazines are part of your collection, we design sizes for Standard Magazines, larger issues like Life Magazine, and even smaller Digest or Manga Sized Books.
What is Shield OPP, and how is it different from a regular Shield bag?▼
Shield OPP is a step up from our classic Shield bag. It's made with a slightly different material called Oriented Polypropylene, or OPP. The enhanced transparency and gloss of OPP gives your display a clearer, more polished look. OPP bags also have a crisp feel and provide a slightly enhanced moisture barrier, providing additional protection. They’re an ideal upgrade if you want a premium sleeve without jumping all the way up to Coretek. It's available in Current, Silver, and Golden sizes.
Do you offer bulk pricing or free shipping?▼
Yes! Many of our bags and boards get less expensive the more you order. Packs of our Shield Bags get a discount once you order 5 or more, and again at 10 or more. And no matter what you order, any purchase of $50 or more ships free!
